The Challenge
In 2018, MetLife began planning a special event in New York City: the Broker and Consultant Summit. The conference was a fantastic opportunity to connect with affiliates, share key learnings about the fast-moving world of workplace benefits, and help advisers adapt, grow and thrive.
With so much on the agenda, from inspiring guest keynotes to fireside chats and panel discussions, the MetLife events team wanted to make sure it stood out from the crowd.
What could capture attendees' attention amid a busy day of talks, networking and learning? A snack, of course.
The events team chose popcorn, a long-time favorite at exhibitions and events. It's easy to eat, smells fantastic and grabs people's attention.
Popcorn machine ordered, the team realized they could promote their brand even further with bespoke branded popcorn cartons.

The Solution
Enter EdgeCraft Packaging. MetLife came to us for elegant corporate popcorn cartons that captured the brand's identity and the spirit of the event, designed and delivered in just under two weeks.
Relishing the creative opportunity, our popcorn packaging designers got to work, creating mock-ups that effortlessly combined MetLife's logo and brand colors with the outline of the New York skyline, where the event was taking place.
Alongside a beautiful design, we advised the MetLife team on critical factors like manufacturing paper, coating and dimensions, using our expertise to help the brand create stylish, durable and eye-catching boxes.
Designs approved, the events team gave us the green light to head into production. In seven days, we manufactured and delivered the bespoke popcorn boxes to New York City.
The Results
The branded popcorn was a popping success. Despite ordering a surplus of boxes, MetLife ran out of popcorn cartons by the end of the summit!
The cartons didn't just draw attendees to the brand's stand, they doubled as free marketing. Event guests carried the MetLife brand around the entire conference, drawing more and more people to the company's booth.
There's value in both the online and offline channels’¦working together to create the right experience for customers is going to be really important’¦if incumbents can get channel integration right, they can pull ahead of digital natives. Incumbents can have a significant advantage over time given the importance of offline channels in the branding and distribution of insurance.
